The unforgiving wilderness of Hokkaido, Japan, in the late Meiji period (1868–1922) sets the stage for Golden Kamuy, a thrilling Japanese adventure film.

The film is based on the popular manga series by Satoru Noda. The movie throws us into a desperate scramble for a hidden fortune—a trove of Ainu gold stolen by a ruthless man known only as Noppera-bo.

Saichi Sugimoto, a battle-hardened veteran of the Russo-Japanese War, was nicknamed “Immortal Sugimoto” for his uncanny ability to survive.

Haunted by the ghosts of his fallen comrades, Sugimoto now seeks a new purpose in the frozen north.

Working as a gold panner, he stumbles upon a whispered legend—a vast cache of Ainu gold hidden by Noppera-bo before his capture.

The key to finding this treasure lies in a brutal twist: Noppera-bo tattooed the location on the bodies of 24 convicts before escaping prison with them.

Fate intervenes when Sugimoto encounters Asirpa, a young Ainu girl orphaned by Noppera-bo’s cruelty.

Asirpa, possessing a deep connection to the land and being fluent in its secrets, holds the potential to decipher the tattooed map on the convicts’ bodies.

Recognizing their shared goals—Sugimoto’s desire for wealth and Asirpa’s thirst for revenge—they forge an unlikely alliance.

However, Sugimoto and Asirpa are not the only ones on the trail of the golden bounty. A motley crew of fortune seekers descends upon Hokkaido, each with their own motivations.

There’s the ruthless Lieutenant Tsurumi, a former comrade of Sugimoto with a hidden agenda and a squad of sadistic soldiers at his command.
