The Plot
The Bequeathed is a chilling Netflix Korean crime thriller that debuted in 2024. It weaves a captivating narrative around Yoon Seo-ha, a university lecturer in Seoul.
Her seemingly ordinary life takes a sharp turn when news arrives of a distant relative’s passing.
This revelation unearths a long-buried family secret: Seo-ha has inherited the family’s traditional burial ground from an uncle she never knew existed.
The inheritance stirs up a whirlwind of emotions for Seo-ha. It reignites painful memories of her estranged father, who abandoned her and her mother when she was just a child.
Venturing into the unfamiliar countryside with her supportive husband, Seo-ha arrives at the inherited land, only to be met with further complications.
At the funeral, a surprise encounter throws Seo-ha’s world into further disarray. A mysterious man, Kim Young-ho, introduces himself as her half-brother, demanding a share of the inheritance.
This unexpected development sets off a chain of ominous events that leave Seo-ha deeply unsettled.
Adding to the unease, Detective Choi Sung-jun becomes suspicious of the circumstances surrounding her uncle’s death.
His investigation delves deeper, revealing that more than meets the eye lies beneath the seemingly straightforward case of manslaughter.
As the detective digs, a web of intrigue begins to unravel, hinting at a darkness hidden within the family’s past.
Meanwhile, Seo-ha grapples with the sudden emergence of her half-brother and the unsettling atmosphere that pervades the inherited land.
The once peaceful countryside now feels fraught with danger. The line between past and present blurs as Seo-ha uncovers fragments of a long-concealed family history.
The townspeople harbor their own secrets, and some seem suspiciously invested in the outcome of the inheritance.
As the body count rises and Seo-ha becomes a target herself, the stakes become terrifyingly personal.
